Why HydroQuest

Peace of mind, from the first call

✓

Confidence before you drill

Our survey gives you a clear read on where, and how deep, before any drilling starts.

↻

One coordinated process

We handle the survey, then connect you with a trusted drilling partner, no need to source a driller yourself.

R

Cost-effective

Knowing where to drill in advance cuts the risk of paying for a dry or low-yield hole.

∞

Built for the long term

We identify sustainable aquifers, not just the nearest damp patch of ground.

i

Guidance throughout

We talk you through the findings and what they mean for your drilling decision.

⚡

Fast turnaround

Survey booked, done, and reported back to you, usually within days, not weeks.

Questions

Frequently asked

How accurate is the survey?

We use two separate detection machines so that every reading is cross-checked rather than taken on trust. In practice this means:

  • Both instruments are run across the site, and the position with the strongest positive signal response is marked as the recommended drill point.
  • Readings are compared against each other, so a result is only recommended when both instruments agree.
  • Over the past two years, our surveys have been around 90% accurate in determining the most likely underground water locations.
  • Depth estimates are given as a conservative range rather than a single figure, because water tables shift over time.
  • We also assess whether the site is accessible to a standard drilling rig, so you are not left with a spot that cannot be reached.

We are upfront about the limits too. No geophysical instrument can be 100% accurate. Underground and overhead electrical interference affects readings, and a detected fracture may not always produce enough yield or usable water.

How long does a survey take?

A typical survey takes one to two hours on site, depending on the size and terrain of the property.

What's included in the report?

Every survey ends with a written report you can hand straight to a drilling contractor. It covers:

  • Site overview and location map, an aerial map of your property with the surveyed points and the marked drill position plotted on it.
  • Instrument findings, what both detection machines picked up on site, and where the strongest positive signal response was recorded.
  • Survey graphs and subsurface profile, EMT measurement plots and a colour subsurface profile showing the fracture and change in lithology.
  • Recommended drill position and depth, the exact point to drill, with a conservative estimated depth range for reaching water.
  • Rock formation and geology, the rock types underlying your site and what they mean for drilling and groundwater potential.
  • Aquifer class and expected yield, your site's aquifer classification and the expected borehole yield in litres per second.
  • Drilling specification, recommended method, borehole diameter, casing requirements, and rig accessibility notes.
Do you also drill the borehole?

We handle the detection and survey side, then connect you with a trusted drilling contractor to carry out the physical drilling, so you get one coordinated process without having to source a driller yourself.

What does a survey cost?

Every site is different, so pricing depends on your location and the size of the property. Get in touch on call or WhatsApp with a few details about your site and we will send you a quote upfront, with no obligation to book.

What areas do you cover?

We operate right across Gauteng, from Johannesburg and Sandton through to Pretoria, Centurion, Midrand, and the East and West Rand. If you are on the edge of the province or just outside it, give us a call anyway and we will let you know what we can do.
